The Panda, the Cat and the Dreadful Teddy: The enormously funny parody of Charlie Mackesy’s The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
About this deal
Panda is the hero for those of us who already have our coping mechanisms in place and don't want a smug positive-thinker spoiling our misery. Cute and funny in places but also quite confusing sometimes. I can't tell if there is supposed to be a thread to follow and it is difficult to read some of the writing. It's basically a parody of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (which I also loved). Whereas that was full of inspiring and thought provoking writing, this book explores our reality. We can't be perfect all the time and sometimes we are like Panda and just don't give a shit. As a fan of the charming book that Magrs that is cheekily parodying, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this, but the fabulous illustration on the cover immediately drew me in. I was won over straight away with the contrast of the childish doodles and the grown up content that blended perfectly. It’s delightfully uncouth and I loved it.
This is my first book by Paul Magrs for some time and I was glad to reacquaint myself with his razor sharp wit. The gentle and reassuring traditions of classic children’s books lovingly observed, and then gleefully profaned. Are you sitting comfortably? Well, that was probably your first mistake.’ Honestly tho, I've been a fan of Paul Magrs for years. His cynical, gin-sodden, stuffed-toy Panda character is one of my favourite creations and truly he shines in this format. This is amongst other things a parody of that book and it is funny. If you have ever had a moment of irritation at some one else being tiresomely upbeat please give this book a read and Paul Magrs some money. If ever there was a time when we needed this book – it’s now. I can’t tell you how much I LOVED it. I’m buying it for EVERYONE!It’s beyond brilliant. It’s going to be a massive hit.’– Milly Johnson, author of The Teashop on the CornerThank you to @tandemcollectiveuk @harpercollinsuk and @pmagrs for the gifted copy of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑻𝒆𝒅𝒅𝒚 🐼🧸😻 I absolutely loved it! I'm not sure how this is supposed to be a parody of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse because it doesn't follow a narrative or use the same format like The Woman, the Mink, the Cod and the Donkey does. The only similarity here is the font type. Ive bought this twice now, once as a present. Non stop laughter but simple and fab. Ive bought this twice now, once as a present. Non stop laughter but simple and fab. This is a book of nice illustrations and some words from which you will likely gain some sort of inspiration. Like: Despite the cute cover and illustrations throughout, this is definitely intended for adults who can cope with strong language from panda bears.
A horrible book. It might appeal to anyone who finds constant use of the F word amusing but in my opinion it is totally unnecessary and the book is about as amusing as having ones leg amputated A horrible book. Enter the world of me, Panda, plus my sometime-friends Cat and Teddy. You will find us living our best lives, trying (and occasionally succeeding) to be kind to each other. The Panda, the Cat and the Dreadful Teddy: a Parody’ by Paul Magrs is a brilliant little illustrated book that sends-up those popular inspirational and mindfulness books that feature animals. Even as a book on its own, I didn't like it that much. It tries too hard to be funny, self-deprecating and relatable through the main character 'Panda', who is simply an arsehole and mean to Teddy for no reason.
